Custom Printed, Unpadded Paper Mailer Envelopes – when black and brown = green

I have often said (and written) that green is in the eye of the beholder, but most people assume natural, Kraft (brown) packaging is “greener” than white or any other substrate color. This actually goes beyond perception in that most white packaging products utilize virgin paper to create that nice white finish. To the contrary, many brown, Kraft colored products, such as our Globe Guard® unpadded paper mailer envelopes are made of 100% recycled content material, most of which is post consumer waste, (PCW) so naturally brown products are typically more eco friendly than those that are white .

The concern over green perception extends to ink colors and ink coverage when we custom print any of our products, and especially any of our 100% recycled content products. Creating a balance between maximizing brand exposure and minimizing ink can be a challenge. Keep in mind this desire to minimize is not about economics because ink is relatively inexpensive. It is about customers’ common perception that ink, any ink, is not a green alternative. Unfortunately, I have witnessed many occasions when a good, green packaging product has essentially been ruined with excessive graphics, too much ink coverage or more ink colors than necessary. Not surprisingly, black has become one of the most popular ink colors, especially when printing on a brown substrate.

Black on Brown Is an Attractive Green Packaging Solution

“Basic black” can be very attractive on a Kraft background creating a natural, classy, or even antique look depending on the graphics. With our screening capability, we can create different shades of gray which are ideal for images of people. We can help you create just about any “look” you want and eliminate the need for costly labels or ineffective rubber stamps. The best part is that on many of our products, the pricing is competitive with unprinted products and the minimums are lower than you might expect.

As an example, on our Globe Guard 100% recycled content unpadded paper mailer envelopes, you have a choice of twenty-six standard colors (including black) and we can print front or back with one or two colors in a minimum quantity of one case. The number of mailers per case varies, depending on the mailer size as you can see on our stock size selection.

For water activated adhesive reinforced paper tape, we offer 12 standard colors (including black) and the minimum is a low six case order. Custom PMS colors are also available with a slight up charge.
